What do I do about my diet? First and foremost: I did quit drinking altogether. Alcohol interferes in my body's purines' metabolism. It affects my kidney's function. It impacts my body's ability to excrete excess uric acid. No wine, no beer (which I used to love), no hard liquor. No alcohol in any form and shape. Nulla. But I do drink the good stuff: vegetable juices, fruit juices, especially cherry juice and a lot of water, and something called Zambroza, which helped my gout a great deal!
I must admit I'm still having meat. Poultry twice a week, chicken, mostly turkey. But no chicken soup, that's a no-no. On rare occasions I will have my New York Steak. Other than that - no red meat no organ meat. I like fish, but stay away from anchovies, herring, mackerel. And yes, at times I am being tempted. Always when we eat out. And we do this a lot!
May I suggest one important thing? If you choose to continue to drink alcoholic beverages, please do not mix them with the "forbidden" foods. For this is more than certain to trigger gout attack.
Gout prevention includes watching what you eat! I eat a lot of fruits, love cherries, blueberries and strawberries. I also buy frozen berries that I mix with plain, organic yogurt. Veggies are always on my menu, spare the spinach. Too acidic. Very little broccoli and cauliflower. My only sin remain the coffee. Just don't seem to be able to cut down on it.
Preventing gout is my lifestyle!I used to be overworked and under-slept. Now I strive to get my 8, and never less than 7 hours of sleep. Thankfully I can afford working fewer hours. Can you? If not, always compensate it with sufficient sleep.
Exercise - I do - in moderation, this relieves stress and helps control your weight. Never overexercise. Never fast for too long. Alkalize your body. Most people are either acidic or strongly acidic. Ideally you want to be only slightly acidic (PH=6.5) This is ideal in preventing gout, I de-acidify my body by drinking chlorophyll regularly. Chlorophyll means no worries. I just cannot indefinitely drink apple cider vinegar and/or baking soda cocktails. Please take a look at the paraben-free chlorophyll that drink myself and recommend to everybody:Chlorophyll (Canada). Live in the US? Here: Chlorophyll (USA)
I understand that you may have no control over certain circumstances such as prescribed drugs and/ or surgery. Just keep in mind that drugs or surgery easily trigger gout attack. Finally - preventing gout must include infection avoidance. If you are prone to infections, prevent them best you can. I do so this through regular use of Thai-Go (Zambroza) and the nano-silver!
