Overactive Immune System

I have been diagnosed with autoimmune disease today. Is there any herbal remedies that may help this condition? I am a 48 year old man, which has just recently started down the natural herbs, healing and homegrown food, in a green environment. Any help would be appreciated.

My son has had an overactive immune system for almost 3 years.
He does not have it all the time, it flares up every once in a while, but when it does it is bad.
My son is 20 and eats a poor diet, so I am sure that plays a huge roll in his problem. When he has his flare ups, usually comes when he eats too much fast food for too long, which poor diet is can cause overactive immune system.

A few things I have found is that a lack of Vitamin D can cause autoimmune problems. Which makes sense, because we get vitamin D from sun exposure and my son does not spend much time outside. Each time he has a episode with his immune system flare ups, I ask them to test his vitamin D levels through blood work and the levels are usually low, so I am starting to think that could play a roll in his problems.
Vitamin D is one of the vitamins that you can get too much of, so you don't want to over do it on your supplements. Also Omega-3 such as fish oil or krill oil is suppose to be good for the immune system.

Stress, diet, infections and a few other things can cause this more complicated.

I am 49 with an over reactive immune if you get the chemicals and metals out of your body sometimes the immune will go back to normal it just depends why it went out in the first place.

For me doing that and way more was not enough so now I am really looking for the answers myself please let me know if you find the way and I will let you know as well if I do.

I have read tonight though that 4 herbs that will help to modulate an immune not send it up higher are reishi mushroom, american ginseng, aswayandha and licorice.
